Our History
Great things often start from small beginnings; Prestige Care is no exception.
Although the company was founded in 1985, our origins begin four decades prior with the legacy of Sarah Delamarter, a pioneer in Oregon’s long-term care industry. Sarah first began using her nursing skills to care for seniors in her home back in 1946 as a means to support her family. As Sarah’s reputation spread for her compassion and care, the demands for her services grew quickly.
Her commitment to the care of seniors was passed down throughout the family, and Sarah’s legacy lives on through Prestige. Her grandsons, Harold and Dr. Rick Delamarter, as well as their business partner Greg Vislocky, now own Prestige and have grown the business throughout the Western United States while always keeping Sarah’s dedication to care as the top priority.

Sarah's Story
The story of Prestige Care begins at the top of a long, spiral staircase at a home in Troutdale, Oregon. It was there, in 1946, where Sarah Delamarter first began caring for seniors in her home. Those in Sarah’s charge slept in their rooms down the hallway from the top of that staircase, but this was an era before sensors and automatic lights.
So to help keep those in her care safe, Sarah slept on the floor at the top of the stairs, acting as a human alarm system to prevent falls in the event a senior got up in the night and was disoriented in the dark.
Running her first care facility out of her home, Sarah handled just about every task – the attention to her residents, the laundry, the housekeeping, while providing a level of care unparalleled for that era.
But her work went beyond the day-to-day; she also kept an eye on the future, buying land and other buildings to grow the business. Eventually, she passed on one care center to each of her four children, ensuring that her legacy of caring for seniors would be passed down throughout the Delamarter family.
In 1985, Prestige Care was formed, and today, two of Sarah’s grandchildren, Harold and Dr. Rick Delamarter, along with their business partner Greg Vislocky, own the company.
While the company that started in Sarah’s home has grown considerably, her legacy of care has remained. Focusing on the needs of the residents and patients as the first priority, and knowing that every single staff member makes an impact on their lives, drives every decision the company makes.
The family connections continue into the next generation, as Harold Delamarter’s sons, Jason, who is Prestige’s Chief Operations Officer, and Ryan, the company’s Chief Legal Officer, lead the business today.
In its fifth decade of operation, Prestige Care, a company that began in Sarah Delamarter’s home, is an industry leader in senior care while still operating with the ideals that started it all.
