Prestige Care

Meet Our Resident: Maureen, therapist and spiritual guru

Posted by Prestige Care

Meet our resident and neighbor, Maureen. She spent most of her formative years in Minnesota and moved away when she married her husband.  She was married for 13 years and had 5 children.

After her husband passed away, Maureen became a human sexuality and grief therapist, helping others cope with grief and mourning following the death of a loved one. While helping others heal through therapy, she battled her own bout of cancer. During that time she recognized a need in the community for support for those affected by terminal illnesses.

While she persevered through her own experience with cancer, Maureen decided that she wanted to be an instrument of care to others who were suffering. She decided to start a non-profit organization called “Voices of Healing” an international organization whose mission is the exploration of challenges and opportunities within serious illness. She co-authored a book on recovery from codependent relationships and published various white papers and videos.

Maureen describes herself as a free spirit who desires to be empathetic with others in their time of need. Over the years, she enjoyed living on a boat in the Mediterranean and off the coast of San Francisco with friends. Maureen loves listening to Dixieland Jazz music and states, “it can make anyone’s day profoundly better.” One of her favorite musicians is Turk Murphy.

Since Maureen has come to live at our Prestige community, she still shares her gift of encouragement to others. Whether it be her neighbors at the community or the staff. She works closely alongside our life enrichment director in leading Tai Chi and meditation with residents. You’ll even see her lead the morning standup meeting with a guided meditation and words of encouragement for our management team to start off their day on a high note.

Maureen is a blessing to all who come in contact with her, and we all walk away with a smile and a lighter step. Thank you for shining your beautiful light on us, Maureen.
