Prestige Earns Four-Star Rating

Kittitas joins just 20 percent of care centers nationwide to earn the prestigious rating from CMS

Ellensburg, Wash. - Prestige Care, a leading provider of skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation, is pleased to announce that Prestige Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center – Kittitas recently earned a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The new rating, which significantly upgrades the center’s previous two-star rating, reflects several recent positive changes at Prestige Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center – Kittitas intended to improve service for patients and create deeper relationships with local hospitals and health care providers. 

The achievement has been led by new center administrator, Ed Morache, who joined Prestige in September 2015 bringing more than four decades of health care industry experience to Prestige’s values-driven approach to compassionate, quality care.

“We have a truly vibrant center made up of dedicated caregivers, valued patients and families who trust us with the honor of taking care of their loved one,” Morache said. “Our recent four-star rating is a reflection of the commitment and compassion each and every staff person brings to their work at Prestige, and it is an achievement well-earned by the entire team.”

As part of the center’s ongoing commitment to improving quality clinical care and service, it also appointed Dr. Kevin Martin as medical director and invested in its relationship with Kittitas Valley Hospital by streamlining communication between the hospital and care providers at Prestige. These efforts have helped ensure patients receive the most appropriate care during their stay at Prestige Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center in order to resume their daily routines as quickly as possible.

According to Morache, the four-star rating is also a reflection of the center’s enhancements to its systems and procedures designed to promote efficiencies in documentation, communication and safety protocols. 

“Our biggest strides in enhancing our care and service happen when we work together and our team sees the results of their effort,” Morache said, describing a boost in employee morale that has accompanied the center’s achievements. 

But the biggest boost may have come from a smaller source – Morache’s pug Isabelle, a trained therapy dog, visits the center regularly and is extremely popular among patients, families, visitor and staff.

Just 20 percent of care centers nationwide earn four-star ratings on CMS’ five-star scale. Morache’s goal is to achieve a five-star rating in his tenure at Kittitas, something he has accomplished in previous administrative roles at other care centers.

The Five-Star Quality Rating System was established by the CMS in 2008 and helps patients, residents, families and caregivers evaluate the level of quality care provided by skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers. Ratings are determined by a combination of scores that consider safety, past health inspection results, caregiver and staffing data, as well as, various other quality measures.

By rating skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers across the country and publishing the results, the CMS has encouraged greater transparency between care providers and the public. CMS provides full reports on the nursing and rehabilitation centers it rates on its website at www.cms.hhs.gov.
