Jackie Nelson Recognized by the Washington Health Care Association for Her Commitment to Quality Care

Vancouver, Wash. – Prestige Care Inc., a leader in senior living and skilled nursing care, is pleased to announce that Jackie Nelson, a special care unit manager at Prestige Care & Rehabilitation – Pinewood Terrace in Colville, Wash., has been recognized by the Washington Health Care Association (WHCA) as this year’s skilled nursing Red Carpet Quality Award recipient.

Each year, WHCA honors four skilled nursing professionals in the categories of nursing, administration, caregiving and additional support staff. The Red Carpet award is specifically designed to honor staff who are not directly applicable to the nursing, caregiving and administration categories, but who still make a profound impact on patients’ lives and well-being, consistently demonstrate professionalism and exhibit dedication to patient care and safety.

“Jackie’s enthusiasm for her work is immediately evident to everyone she encounters,” said Gail McDowell, administrator of Prestige Care & Rehabilitation – Pinewood Terrace. “She is in an endless pursuit to maintain a happy and healthy home for her residents and promote camaraderie among staff and families. Jackie is so deserving of this honor and we are very proud of her.”

Since joining Prestige 10 years ago, Nelson has made direct, positive improvements in the Special Care Unit and beyond. She developed an Alzheimer’s support group for the center to provide education and encouragement for people caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other memory impairments. She’s committed to finding alternative interventions and approaches to Alzheimer’s care to reduce the use of medication in treating the disease and its effects.

Nelson also ensures that her residents and patients enjoy plenty of extracurricular activities and adventures. On a regular basis, Nelson coordinates shopping trips, lunch outings and picnics by the river or a nearby park. This last fall, she took a group of residents on a train ride to see the seasonal foliage and each year she puts on a barbecue for residents and families. To help memorialize their outings, she takes pictures throughout the year and creates memorable videos for residents and their families.

Residents, patients and families know Nelson to be a dedicated, loyal ally who exemplifies the above-and-beyond mentality that so many of Prestige’s staff demonstrate every day. She is known for her natural ability to keep all those around her well-informed and at ease, and often stays after hours to comfort residents and personally invest in their well-being.

As the only recipient of the skilled nursing Red Carpet Award, Nelson will be recognized at this year’s WHCA annual convention in Spokane, Wash., on May 21.
