Washington Health Care Association Chapter 10 recognizes Christopher Brown of Sullivan Park Care Center

Spokane, Wash. – Prestige Care is proud to announce that Christopher Brown has been recognized with the Washington Health Care Association Chapter 10 Caregiver of the Year Award. Brown is a restorative coordinator and CNA at Sullivan Park Care Center in Spokane, where he developed and now oversees the center’s fall and injury prevention Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.

The chapter’s Caregiver of the Year Award recognizes the individual from the region who truly adds to the quality of life and care for the seniors they serve in Washington assisted living and skilled nursing centers.

“Christopher is a compassionate and devoted caregiver through and through – his patients come first, and he does everything he can to enrich their lives,” said Glen Dunlap, administrator at Sullivan Park Care Center. “His commitment exemplifies the values-driven care our teams across the organization provide every day to patients and their families. He is very deserving of this award, and we are proud of his great work.”

Brown strives to empower patients to be as independent as possible and believes that the greatest gift one can give is a helping hand. The falls reduction program Brown developed and enthusiastically promotes has led to outstanding patient participation and optimal results.

Brown’s commitment to providing exceptional care is complemented by his efforts to help others hone their caregiving skills, as well. At Sullivan Park Care Center, Brown is responsible for training staff and nursing students from the local college, and is certified as a peer advisor by the Qualis Health Collaborative, which allows him to visit other nearby skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers to assist them with implementing QAPI programs.

Brown joined Sullivan Park Care Center in 2007 as a CNA, and his commitment to outstanding patient care shone through as he was promoted to weekend restorative aid and CNA float.

Brown’s dedication to providing compassionate senior care is a family tradition. His father was a registered nurse at a skilled nursing center, giving Brown first-hand knowledge of the profession from a young age.

Brown is currently pursuing a degree in healthcare administration with the aim of becoming a senior care center administrator.

“Christopher demonstrates compassion, empathy and maturity,” said Katherine Monteressi, director of nursing at Sullivan Park Care Center. “He is creative in providing individual needs for each resident and is a true team player.”

Sullivan Park Care Center provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation support from a team of caregivers whose goal is to be a positive part of patients' daily lives. The next-door Sullivan Park Assisted Living Community gives patients and residents access to a full continuum of care.

Brown was honored at the WHCA’s Annual Chapter 10 Legislative Dinner at the Davenport Hotel last week, where Prestige Care staff and residents presented a video commemorating their appreciation for his skilled care and dedication.

The chapter, which represents Adams, Ferry, Lincoln, Pend Oreille, Spokane, Stevens and Whitman counties, hosts the annual Legislative Dinner and Quality Awards to honor the region’s exceptional caregivers and helps legislators get to know the individuals in the state’s long-term care profession.

The nonprofit WHCA promotes quality long-term health care and services and serves as an advocate for providers, staff and the patients and residents for whom they care. WHCA members provide health and personal care, social support and housing to 25,000 Washingtonians each day.
