Skilled nursing facilities are licensed by each state and may be certified to participate in federal Medicaid or Medicare programs. Twenty-four-hour care is prescribed by an attending physician and delivered by a team of licensed professional nurses and certified nursing assistants. It serves residents who need extensive assistance in activities of daily living and periodic skilled nursing intervention. Programs range from short-term, transitional care that bridges the gap between hospital and home to long-term placement for those unable to effectively mange in a lesser care environment. All programs utilize a comprehensive assessment process and interdisciplinary approach to help residents achieve the highest practicable level of independence and quality of life.

Secure units designed for victims of Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.

Secure units designed for geriatric patients suffering from mental illness. Care in this unit is provided in concert with a local mental health agency.
